Indonesia Implements Real-Time Air Emission Monitoring in Industrial Zones

A team of inspectors responsible for controlling emissions from the industrial sector in the provinces of DKI Jakarta, Banten, and West Java has conducted field visits and installed emission monitoring devices. The aim is to understand air conditions and quality in regions with high industrial concentrations.

According to the Director-General of Resilience, Regional Development, and International Industrial Access at the Ministry of Industry, Eko S. A. Cahyanto, these devices will be installed at various locations by December 2023, in line with the inspection team's task duration. Companies located in these areas are requested to provide electricity and Wi-Fi support for the installation of these monitoring devices to ensure continuous data monitoring.

Eko also revealed that approximately 1,025 industrial companies and industrial estate companies in the region are currently under surveillance. Most of these companies use boilers for production processes and energy supply.

Once the emission monitoring devices are installed, data will be directly linked to the Ministry of Industry's system and can be monitored in real-time. The Ministry will install these devices at industrial concentration points.

The criteria for installing emission monitoring devices involve several aspects that companies must meet. This includes a description of potential pollution sources related to emissions, such as the number and coordinates of chimneys, as well as production processes contributing to emissions. Companies are also expected to provide data on the quantity and height of chimneys used and report emission monitoring data every six months in the form of Emission Test Results (LHU) reports.

Efforts to control emissions in the industrial sector are part of the Ministry of Industry's initiative to promote green industry principles in Indonesia. This is expected to help industrial companies and industrial zones contribute to environmental sustainability by complying with regulations and reducing air emissions.
